I'M HAVING TWINS!

Posted by Patti Clancy

I'm_having_twins!

But something tells me I won't be grinning like this next week.  I'm not talking about new grand-babies, I'm talking bilateral total knee replacement. That's right, folks, a two for one special.

Here's the situation: a picture tells a thousand words.

In the past eleven days I've gone from, "I really need to do something about these knees", to "Holy crap, I'll have two new knees six days from now!" Everything happened so fast, but I've never had stars line up for me in such rapid order before, opening every door to make this possible in such a short space of time.

I dove into 50 hours of emails, phone calls, verifying insurance coverage, three trips to NY and back, one consult, nine pre-op appointments, and sleepless nights trying to talk myself out of it.  Each day, the chronic pain would sharpen my focus, though.

Meet my doc. Dr. Mark Figgie of Hospital for Special Surgery did a total hip replacement on me four years ago, which I am thankful for every day. I have complete trust in him to get me back in the game with my TKR's next Monday, Mar 12th. See for yourself what a respected, skillful surgeon he is in this video.

It's going to be a hard path to recovery, but with the help of my family, friends, and some awesome PT, I'm determined to power through this and 'g

I am certainly looking forward to pain-free dancing, hiking, biking, kneeling, walking, and working out - and the girlie side of me will be thrilled to actually wear a pair of heels again!

Each knee will have a scar of course, but well worth the trade off for painless mobility.

Please feel free to share your battle stories with me on your own knee replacements!
